About Robyn
I am a Solution Focussed Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist, IEMT and Embodied Processing practitioner
I was first introduced to hypnotherapy by a friend who desperately wanted to change their fussy eating habits.
Seeing how successful their sessions had been, I was intrigued.
At the time I was quite happy working within the care industry as head of the palliative care team, working within complex care and later working with complex cerebral palsy which I found both rewarding and challenging, then, a few years ago, I started to get poorly, a lot.
Frequent bouts of ill health and debilitating fatigue impacted both my private and work life. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and eventually ME/CFS/FM, a seriously debilitating condition affecting over 250000 people in the UK alone.
This eventually led to me being unable to work, leave the house, and at my worst unable to sit up or feed myself. The physical symptoms were unbearable, trying to manage chronic and long-term acute pain as well as the social isolation and brain fog was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with.
At times I was ready to give up. This wasn’t the life I’d signed up for. There didn’t seem to be a way out. I was trying everything I could to improve my condition, CBT, diet, supplements, cold water treatment, infrared, but keeping on top of everything with such limited energy and plummeting mental health felt like climbing a mountain whilst shackled to a tonne weight.
At the same time my friend told me they had been seeing a newly qualified hypnotherapist to help with weight loss. They were over the moon with the results and felt that they were better able to make good decisions about everything in their life and felt generally much happier. I had read of hypnotherapy helping chronic pain and other chronic conditions, so I picked up the phone and booked five sessions and I haven’t looked back. The sessions enabled me to make small improvements, bit by bit, day by day as well as calming my limbic system and refocusing my mind. Gradually my health began to improve.
After several months of health improvement an advertisement caught my eye from CPHT, and I just knew I had to sign up.
In the ten months I was training, I went from using a walking stick on the rare occasions I felt able to leave the house, to climbing a mountain, something I never thought I’d do again. Hypnotherapy not only helped me improve my own health, but it also gave me a purpose to work towards. Wanting to help others the way I had been helped. Sharing this knowledge so others, like me, could take control of their lives. To live their best version of themselves and reclaim their life.
Solution focused hypnotherapy really stands out to me as it allows the client and therapist to work together to change a mindset and create new opportunities. To rewire the brain, create new thought processes, better habits and a more positive outlook. Together we build skills that don’t just last a few days or months, but a whole lifetime.
After qualifying as a solution focussed hypnotherapist I began working with people suffering, like me with chronic illness. It became clear that there was one thing that we all had in common. the same thing that I had seen in clients really battling mental health again and again, feeling that no matter how much progress they made they would eventually revert to old habits, depression and anxiety. The commonality was trauma, whether that be acute, developmental, chronic or anything else. I knew I had suffered a lot of trauma in my life and as so often happens trauma piles upon trauma taking over our lives, impeding our decision making abilities and natural responses to situations, leading to addiction, eating disorders, compulsive behaviour. Effecting every aspect of our lives, our ability to work or study, our relationships and our health.. This led me to seek more understanding to better help myself and my clients. I trained in IEMT, an invaluable technique to help people process and alleviate triggers and Embodied Processing, a somatic practice working with stored trauma to help release it from the body so we can finally move on. These practices can be used as stand alone techniques or incorporated together to achieve a holistic experience. For so many people, myself included we just want the ability to not just get through life, but the opportunity to thrive in a life we choose for ourselves.
Hypnotherapy came to me when I most needed it.
It is now my privilege and passion to be able to offer that to others.
I’d love to help you find your new path. See how you can work with me to discover how to live with light.
